WHY DOESNT THAT REAL ESTATE PERSON ANSWER THEIR PHONE

It’s 11 AM on Wednesday morning and I am out with clients showing properties and answering their questions. They are in the car with me and my phone has rung 9 times so far since we started at 9:30. I let the calls go to voice mail as the client that is in my car, at that time, deserves my respect and attention.
I am hopeful that those calling will be respectful and leave a message, that I will return when I am done with the current clients. I explain to them, when I call them back, that if they were in the car with me I would be doing the same thing for them. Showing them respect and giving them my attention.
I have had a few disgruntled people that want instant access to me to ask a price or a question that can easily be asked via voice mail and I will call them back to answer it. I have been told by people calling, why can’t you take just 5-10 minutes from what you are doing and answer the call to talk to me quickly.
Well, let’s see – in the morning routine above I would have had 45 minutes (9 calls x 5 mins each) that would have been taken away from the people that I am with. These clients had previously and patiently left me a voice mail to talk to me and understood when I explained to them why I didn’t answer immediately.
They were very appreciative of my standards when we were together and didn’t realize how many times a person’s phone could ring during a 4 hr time frame. I laughed and told them it’s not always that way, but when it is, I stand by my time with whomever I am with.
Another scenario is if it is my phone time to return calls or even if I am having a slow day and answering calls, I will not put the current person I am talking to on hold to take another call, only to have to ask that person to hold while I finish up with the other call. A simple message left on my voice mail will insure a call back as soon as I can.
It’s ok to call back or text me in 3-4 hrs if you haven’t heard from me, sometimes technology does have a blimp in the system, but I do my best to be there when I can.
This has worked well for me and if someone doesn’t leave a message I will do my best to redial that number after the messages are answered to see if I can help.
So that is why this REALTOR doesn’t always answer her phone. Hope you understand and I wish you a better than great day!
