According to the National Association of REALTORS®(NAR), REALTORS and Sustainability Report 2017, about 60 percent of respondents said consumers are interested in sustainability issues when they are house hunting, with 80 percent highlighting efficient lighting as important to buyers, and 42 percent saying solar panels increase a property’s perceived value.

Designed outdoor spaces
Decks and patios have been popular for a long time, but as our lives become more informal, we are doing more actual living outdoors. Once the purview of luxury homes, outdoor kitchens and even fully furnished outdoor living rooms are trickling into the mainstream, and they have the added benefit of making the house seem larger. In a 2017 AIA Home Design Trends Survey, 66 percent of the architects who responded said outdoor living spaces are important to their clients, and 62 percent said that blended indoor-outdoor living spaces are popular.
