Alphabet Soup and REALTORS

OK, you see a Realtor’s business card and there are letters behind or under their name.  What in the world do they mean?  They look like alphabet soup don’t they?

Well, first off, these letters let you know right off that no matter what they mean, you have found a Realtor who takes their education and knowledge extremely serious.  As Realtors we are not required to keep massive amounts of hours in classroom or webinar studies.  But, those of us that truly care about our clients will take the time and expense to make our knowledge base broader, deeper and better so that we can offer more tangible experience and information to any transaction to you.

You are hiring us to help with one of your biggest decisions in your life.  Isn’t it best to hire someone that has the education in the REALTOR world to help you with the right choice.  None of us know all, but there are a number of us that have taken the extra time and expense to find out where and how to help you and direct you, our client and friend, to ensure a successful real estate experience.

My favorite designation that I have is CRS.  This stands for Certified Residential Specialist.  To obtain this coveted designation I had to complete a rigorous educational and production requirement application.  There are a few options a REALTOR may chose to obtain the designation of CRS and the one I chose had me completing 25 transactions, 6 core classes (2 day classes of 8 hrs each) and 4 electives (because I also hold a GRI designation I was able to use that as one of my electives) and the other three were more classes I took. It took me over a year to complete these requirements and I had to pass with good grades.  Each class had a graded exam.

I value the education I received and to this day continue to attend as many webinars as I can that are sponsored by the Council of Residential Specialists as they are great education and marketing tools.

My clients can rest assured that they are well represented in either side of a transaction and if they are in need of a reputable agent in another area, I have over 40,000 “Friends” that I can recommend them to and know they are in good hands.

Make sure you ask your REALTOR what designations they have and what they stand for.  I have a large number of them to share.   I will save another designation for another blog.
